Dr Christoforou recently returned back from a life changing medical mission to Guatemala City along with the Guatemala Healing Hands Foundation. The mission took place over two weeks, where a team of surgeons, therapists, nurses and other volunteers from all over the United States, Canada and Europe came together to deliver specialized medical and surgical care to the indigenous pediatric population of Guatemala. As many Guatemalan communities continue to struggle with poverty and inaccessible medical care, the foundation’s mission is to deliver not only the most advanced and specialized health care to those in need, but also community development, such as the building of schools and other infrastructure. This allow all the volunteers, including the doctors, to lend a helping hand.
“This mission was one of the greatest experiences of my life. It was both humbling and inspiring. I am so grateful for having had the opportunity to live out my life mission as a surgeon, and help other human beings truly in need”
