Dr Christoforou recently returned back from another pediatric medical mission to Guatemala with the Guatemala Healing Hands Foundation. The mission took place over the past week, where he returned to the region along with a team of surgeons, anesthesiologists, therapists, nurses and other volunteers from all over the United States and Canada. It was the first pediatric orthopedic mission in the region since Covid. As many of the native communities continue to struggle with poverty and poor medical care, the global pandemic caused even more damage to infrastructure and health care access.
“This was another life changing mission, not only for the patients, but for everyone one of us involved. We screened nearly 150 kids and did almost 70 surgeries in 5 days. My sincerest gratitude goes out to the entire medical team, and to all the families who placed all their trust in us to take care of their children.”
